Bromsgrove Newsletter – Dec 01 2011
Dear Member
Our last meeting was a mix of presentation and demonstration. Julia Hyland gave us the background to her wide ranging role as a medical effects make up artist. Lecturing in the history of medicine at Birmingham University, and her involvement at various educational institutions in providing realistic manifestations of the bubonic plague, anthrax, smallpox and sexual disease. Jenny, Sue and I acted as models and paraded our simulated smallpox blisters, burns and a deep blood filled scar.
This is the last general meeting of 2011, before the Xmas party lunch. Please remember to bring a plate, bowl and cutlery. Glasses will be provided for wine/juice. Lunch will be at 1.00pm when the conservatory doors will be opened to allow you to find your table easily from the plan which will be displayed there. It is hoped that this will prove to be a better method of organisation and one which can be repeated in the future.
If you are not coming to the party, I wish you all a very happy Christmas and, with last year’s weather in mind a hope that if you intend to travel, it will be trouble free.
The Singing for Pleasure group will be at St. Johns Court Nursing home to sing carols on Tuesday 13th December at 2:20pm for one hour. The group would like some volunteers to swell their number; they are not looking for gifted singers, just people who enjoy old fashioned Christmas Carol Singing.
Subscriptions of £20 will be due in January; please pay as early as possible.
Best wishes
Brenda Cox - Chairman

Please do it soon so that it won’t be a last minute rush. Talk to Vic about te format of your pictures so that he knows the best way of putting them all together.

3/ Christmas Party
Thursday December 15th. This year, ticket sales and arrangements will be slightly different. In order to avoid the crush on entry at the door, and the rush to save seats with coats etc. Food will be taken from you as usual and you will be guided to another door, through the conservatory, for entry into the hall. The food table will be down the centre of the hall and dining tables around the outside of the hall. Tickets will be sold for individual so that you know where you will be sitting. Tickets at £1.00 will be on sale from November 3rd. This will give you time to decide who you want to sit with and book tables accordingly. Food lists etc. Will be available from the same date, as will the table decorating group list for the morning of Wednesday 14th at Val’s.
4/ Parking
Please note that the few places alongside the Spadesbourne Suite that were previously available to U3A members are now for the exclusive use of New College staff
5/ Room Bookings
Because of difficulties with booking rooms and parking at Amphlet Hall, John Monahan has agreed to extend his role as Groups Coordinator and will in futur undertake all bookings for this and any other venue that may be required. To this end, john will be contacting Group Leaders to discuss their needs which will, hopefully, simplify matters.
He will also be talking to Group Leaders about a forthcoming feature in the Newsletter which will introduce each of the current interest groups in turn;.
